Constitution of the United States of America, Article 1 Section 8:

“Congress shall have power…
to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts by securing for limited times to authors and
inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.”

Intellectual Property Rights and Representation ~ Often, when an individual or group creates a new product, service or idea that benefits others, another party will copy it.  Successful copying can only succeed in the absence of effective intellectual property protection. 

Intellectual property is tremendously important in today’s competitive business environment, since it provides the means by which the innovator can protect an asset against theft or imitation.  Without effective protection, the value of innovation may be lost forever.
